Major UK travel firm Thomas Cook collapses, 800K travelers stranded

One of the UK's biggest and oldest travel firms,. Thomas Cook, has collapsed, leaving 800,000 travelers, 150,000 of them British, stranded. Future bookings will not be honored. Cook operated its own fleet of aircraft, and those are being flown home empty.

I do not miss Cook's foreign exchange booths with their very poor exchange rates, but I will miss the Cook's European Timetable, a very useful paperback book published monthly with all the rail timetables and rail route maps in Europe. I also feel sorry for their clients caught out by this in the middle of package holidays.
