Now European countries are getting in the act to restrict or totally bar foreigners from entering, in defiance of an EU plea not to do so. Poland, Denmark, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Lithuania, Malta, and Cyprus, together with Switzerland, which is not in the EU, have already taken such action. For some other European countries the border closures are more limited. When mass Wuhan coronavirus infection hit Italy, Austria began stopping trains from Italy at the border and has now further tightened their border with Italy. Hungary has also taken similar limited action on coronavirus, although its borders with Serbia and Croatia have long been tightly controlled to stop illegal immigration from Muslim countries. Russia completely banned entry from China but has been more lax on entry from western countries. Israel has required any foreigner entering the country to be quarantined for 14 days before they will be allowed to enter.

Greece has another border problem altogether with its border with Turkey, as Turkey's president has bused migrants from various Middle Eastern countries to the Greek border and opened the gates on their side, demanding the Greeks let them in. Greece's Prime Minister has refused, and sent his army, navy, and air force to the border to totally seal it to stop anyone crossing. The migrants are chanting "Allah Akbar", and throwing stones, Molotov cocktails, and tear gas provided by the Turks at the Greek soldiers and police. While this is mostly an illegal immigration issue, there is also a coronavirus aspect. Allowing uncontrolled and unchecked mobs to swarm across any border would be a huge public health risk, especially since coronavirus has been reported in some of the refugee camps.
Anyone going to Europe and planning to cross borders should check to see if those borders currently CAN be crossed.
