We fly to Honolulu, and then to Maui. We are doing 1 week in Maui, and then 1 week in Kona, and then return to Honolulu to return home. I have a flight to Maui from Honolulu booked on Hawaiian Airlines. I have read that we should book an early flight because of congestion at the airports. Is it necessary to do this for the flight from Maui to Kona as well? I found airfare for $73.00. Is this good, or should I wait and keep shopping?

Have you looked at GO airlines? They seem to have some good deals every now and then.

Sign up for their frequent flyer clubs (it's free and even if you aren't a frequent flyer it will get you on their e-mail list). Also watch the travel boards. I was able to get tickets on an inter-island flight on Aloha from Oahu to Kona a few weeks ago (for a flight next month) for only $29.
We almost always fly inter-island midday (after a leisurely breakfast and a mid to late morning checkout time from our hotel/condo) and have never dealt with crowds (but we don't go to Hawaii in peak tourist season).

But be aware that their weight limits are more strict than Aloha and Hawaiian (because they fly smaller DeHavilland propjets instead of Boeing 737s (asu Aloha and Hawaiian fly). With Island Air you are allowed two bags, with a combined weight of 50 lbs, whereas with Aloha and Hawaiian you are allowed two bags at 50 lbs/bag. I think that GO might be 40 lbs total.“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”
“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”
“You shouldn't wear that body.”
