    1-800-FlyEurope $644 LAX to Rome?

Travelzoo emailed about a winter airfare sale to Europe yesterday. Must depart before March 31, 2007 and return within 90 days. The base fare is $382 + $262 Taxes/FuelSurcharges = $644 per ticket flying out on a Friday night, returning on a Monday. (Saturday return $100/ticket more, and Sunday not available.)

Anyone ever booked thru 1-800-flyEurope? Their email address is "AutoEurope.com" which has been around for quite awhile renting cars. The airline carrier is SWISS AIR, which is actually a nice flight since we can leave the west coast in the evening and fly non-stop to Zurich and get lots of sleep. Then, a short hop from Zurich to Rome. No changing planes in at JFK or Philly like when we fly the US carriers.

It's such a crap shoot trying to figure out if the fares are going to go any lower. On one hand, it is still a little early for the winter sales. But on the other hand, $644 may not be exciting for an EAST coast fare, but is only a little higher than $599, which would be a pretty decent WEST coast fare for Rome.

What to do? What to do? I have it on 24-hour hold, as we have to buy FOUR tickets (cough, cough).
WHAT DO YOU THINK???? DEAL OR NO DEAL??

I am not positive but I do not think you will get a much better fare flying from LAX unless you do Priceline.
Just think about all the miles you will get go for it. And while you are flying over NYcan you pick me up along the way.

Based on my recollection of fare sales to FCO over the last two years, I'd recommend booking this.

If you could, post the fare basis code (the letters in the sample above) so I can compare what buckets the consolidator is buying out of.

Thanks guys - I booked it!

Thanks for the input. Sometimes something sounds just a little "too" good, so it's nice for folks to take a moment to give you a thumbs up or thumbs down.

        Pat --
I don't have any info on the codes. I checked several places and no one else seems to be able to come up with a quote as low as the "Top 20 TravelZoo" deal. I've checked every single online booking site, RCI Travel, even the Swiss Air (which I will be flying on). I am guessing that AutoEurope has made some consolidator-type of deal with Swiss Air. Kind of like when you book "Pleasant Hawaiian Holidays" to Hawaii, and end up flying on an airline which refused to sell you seats that cheaply themselves.

Where do I go to hear the long and short story of your tales and adventures in Italy? I saw some of the pictures you posted on the Forum and they are awesome. And it sounds like you WERE able to make it to the Leaning Tower of Pisa, after all. I need to find out if I need to make a detour over to Assissi from Florence, and what were your favorite places around Tuscany and Umbria? From your pictures it looks like you had a great trip!

        Thanks again!

I have 1600 pictures that I still have not posted , Only kidding I have 1539 , I will sort them out if I get a chance one day and post some more. I planed on writing the reviews when we were done with the review area which was just pushed back. I will start on it and post it in Shaggy's forum by I hope next week.

Assisi was great but IMO you need 1 to 2 days to see everything and appreciate all of the town. We had visited the tomb of St Francis. There is a Priest that sits next to the tomb and will bless anything you like. We bought a plaque of St Francis and had that blessed.
