US Airways Dividend Miles Program

Did anyone else get a letter regarding US Airways new policy that rewards customers for keeping their miles membership active? Basically, the letter says that US Airways introduced a new policy that rewards customers for keeping their Dividend Miles membership acive. If you have not earned or redeemed miles within a consecutive 18 month period ending January 31, 2007 or any consecutive 18 month period therefater, your entire milage balance will be forfeited. It goes on to state that in order to keep the account active, you can fly on US Airways, get a credit card with US AIr, buy magazine with the points, or pay $50. fee plus $.01 per mile to keep it active.

This account belongs to my daughter. One, she can not fly right now because she is a student in college, and two, we are not planning on any vactions including her in the near future. What should I do? I thought that most airline milage programs stopped the expiration dates on miles posted.

The thing I liked about the USAirways program is that miles never expired. Now you need to do something every 18 months to keep your accumulated miles. I think that stinks. I've been avoiding American for years for that kind of policy. I lost every mile I ever earned on American.

Delta Miles

My Dad, who passed away 3 1/2 years ago, got a letter from Delta saying that his miles expires at the end of November, 2007 and that his miles could be used for magazines. Has anyone else gotten a letter from them?

I have gotten those letter from United. I had to use miles to buy a Magazine or my sons miles would have expired. I only used 400 miles.

Now what I do is buy my flowers when they offer 15 to 25 miles per dollar spent plus give a bonus on top of that. I might get 1000 miles and I don't have to worry about it for a few years after that.

Go to the US website and you'll find a lot of ways for your DD to earn/spend of few miles. I like getting the US Visa card & 25,000 miles. See http://www.bankofamerica.com/creditc...estTimeout=120 There is a $90 fee but it's well worth it. Free flight +++. They are pretty liberal so there is a good chance your DD would be approved if she has any credit history.

I already get a lot of magazines, many of them free because of
special offers found online. However, I looked up a few of the magazines that were offered, and went to the websites and ordered a free copy. I hope I get them before the dedline, and then I can order one from US Airways for 400 points.

Thanks, Frank. You're brilliant. I just ordered some flowers for myself, and saved my husband's miles. He doesn't have a lot, but this option was even less expensive than the best offer in the letter that they sent to me.

I didn't get the bonus, but I got 600 miles and I used my US Airways credit card so I got a few more points going in to my own account.

BTW, I know a number of college students who are 1K's (100,000 mile per year flyers). School and travel don't have to be mutually exclusive.
