  • Changing my Delta reservation

I have never changed an airline reservation. I am so mad, because I had been watching the airfares from LGA to Savannah for quite some time, and they were continuously high. So, I booked to fly from LGA to Charleston, SC, and then drive to Hilton Head. Now, there is an airfare available that is $100.00 cheaper that goes into Savannah on Delta as well. If I change my reservation, I know I pay a fee, I think $50.00. Does this mean that I save $50.00, or am I just paying the fee to change the flight, but continue to pay what I had already paid for the higher fare going into Charleston? Flying into Charleston as oposed to Savannah is not a big deal, but friends of ours would be able to join us if they paid the lower fare. Because of several factors, it would be easier for us to fly into the same airport.

You should be able to change the ticket at Delta.com. Go to "Itineraries" and select "Edit "itinerary". If for some reason that doesn't work, simply call DL.

You are correct that the fee is $50, assuming you have a nonrefundable ticket, which is likely. Delta will apply the fare you paid, less the $50, to the fare of the new itinerary. Thus, assuming that your lower fare is still available when you book the new itinerary, you should get a travel voucher for $50.

However, because of the change in itinerary, you'll need to request the voucher by phone or at a Delta location. So you might as well call!

      Is it a $50.00 refund or a $50.00 credit?

Assuming the ticket was "non-refundable", which is the case for almost all advance-purchase economy tickets, no refund is available. However, the excess that otherwise would be a refund can be issued as a travel voucher, available to be used as partial payment for another DL ticket.

(Oops! Based on the time of your post, I see you asked the question while I erroneously still had "refund" in my post and was in the process of correcting it.)
