  • Need a suggestion for a hotel in Amsterdam Holland

We are heading to Amsterdam, Holland on July 13, arriving on the morning of the 14th and need a hotel for 2 nights. Our DD used her FF miles to get us there so we can take a 2 week river cruise to Vienna. But we can't board until the 16th. Any suggestions? We prefer inexpensive, clean, close to what ever there is to do in Amsterdam...downtown??? TIA.

I can't give you an inexpensive hotel suggestion, but I do recommend that you stay in the city center. There is enough there that you should be able to stay busy sightseeing for a couple of days. A lot of tourist sites are within walking distance. Enough to keep you busy for a couple of days.

Thank you...that helps me narrow down the area anyway! And it sounds as though that is just where we need to be.

You'll want to stay in one of the hotels in or near Dam Square

There's lots to see and do in Amsterdam. If nothing else, you need to visit the Reichsmuseum

[oops - - I didn't realize the image would come out so BIG!]

Yes, I definitely want to see the museums! There is too much excellent art there to miss! Thanks again for narrowing down the area!

            there is only one hotel

when visiting Amsterdam, I can only recommend you one hotel:

            THE BULLDOG HOTEL

            Hope you like it.

Thanks for the suggestion Dirk. Their website is interesting. This looks like a very active, YOUNG crowd hotel/hostel. We are a mid-70's couple, so need something a little quieter and closer to the museum area, so not sure this hotel would be for us. But thanks.

We'll be in Amsterdam starting April 17th. We tried various booking sites, VRBO, Venare, etc., and weren't finding much--so we used Priceline; we
have the Marriott town center for less than $100.00 a night.

Yesterday DD asked if we had booked anything yet, and I said "no". Much of what I find has no A/C and many with narrow, steep stairs..no elevators, but I would try the Priceline/Hotel.com, etc. She said (oh how I love this girl) "Let me see if I can get you in either the Marriott or the Renaissance Inn with my points...I have half a million points now". She is checking this week.

how about hotel bookings with RCI Points?

what are your experiences? would be nice to hear from mebers using RCI points to book hotels. In europe i basically start always with Hotel Reservation Service (HRS) for hotels.
