  • TravelSafe Vacation Insurance?

Has anyone used TravelSafe Vacation Insurance before? If so, please share your experience if you have had to file a claim with them.

Rates are dependent on coverage and age. I find this very interesting: the company offers a "Cancel for Any Reason" option for additional charge if you purchase within 15 days:

"Policyholders can cancel their trip up to two days prior to departure, for any reason, and still receive a cash refund of up to 75 % of the pre-paid trip cost that would have otherwise been non-refundable (90 % for Premier). Of course, if you have "Cancel For Any Reason" coverage and you need to cancel for a covered reason, you are still covered for up to 100 %.

Why do you need "Cancel For Any Reason"? Unforeseen circumstances can occur in our daily lives at any time. Sometimes, these situations are not covered under our standard travel insurance protection. The loss of a pet...the threat of rain...a change in work schedule...or maybe a relationship goes sour and you don't want to take that trip anymore. Situations like these might otherwise cause you to lose your vacation investment, but not if you are protected with the "Cancel For Any Reason" option.

As long as you are within 15 days of the date you put your first deposit on your trip, you insure the total pre-paid and non-refundable cost of your trip and you are medically able to travel at the time you obtain the insurance, you are eligible to purchase TravelSafe's popular "Cancel For Any Reason" option and the feeling of being in the driver's seat with your vacation plans.

Yep, we used them once and will NEVER use them again. To many conditions for payment of a claim. We were stranded in Barcelona Spain when our ship couldn't dock because the fisherman had the port blocked. Our claim for travel delay/trip interuption was cancelled because striking fisherman was not one of the NAMED conditions for reimbursement. Seems that with their policy, there are only certain conditions under which they will pay. Strike which affects public transportion (taxis, public busses, trains but not cruise ships), weather or pretty much anything the prevents your plane from taking off. Otherwise, to bad. We were out $1,400 in airfare getting back home that they refused to reimburse.

Others who had insurance through CSA or Travelex had no such issues getting their claims paid. I learned to read through these policies carefully when purchasing and have been pretty happy with the way CSA's policies read. So far, I haven't had to file a claim with CSA but, like I said, those that had CSA coverage on our trip had not problems getting their claims paid.

Keep in mind that all policies have a time limit for trip interuption or travel delay. Some as little as 4 hours while others can be as long as 24 hours. Let's say theirs a taxi strike and, for whatever reason, you can't get to the airport to catch your flight. The strike ends at midnight and now you can get to the airport but, your policy states the cause has to be over 12 hours. If your flight was later than noon and the strike ended at midnight you very well could be SOL for getting your claim reimbursed. These policies can be tricky so use their "right to cancel" provision and READ THE WHOLE THING before your free look period is up.

Sorry you didn't get reimbursed even though you bought travel insurance.

      Thanks for the advice.
