Maybe Gordon Brown's recent DOUBLING of the UK air ticket tax might be running off people from traveling to the UK.

Of course, one drawback to cheap fares on Air France these days is that they no longer give you your full miles on partners like DL and NW.

A bargain like this would probably be enough for me to forget the miles, but it would have to involve a heck of a good deal for me to ever buy a ticket on Air France again, after they started shortchanging us on ff miles.

I don't consider $600 RT a bargain basement flight for my timeframe. It is a real good price as I have been seein $800-$900 range since January on the non-stops. I'd like to find <$500 and on someone with partner miles on UA or AA. But if I DO see $500RT all in, I'd forfeit the miles in a heartbeat.

Lang I hate to see what you pay in OZ for airfare. LON from NYC is not that much farther than LAX from NYC and before they upped the taxes we could get flights in the $350 range for non-stops if you watched closely and could be a tad flexible on the dates.

With the taxes at approx $200 per ticket I'm sure that isn't going to happen for me this summer.

BTW, from what I read on Flyer Talk, the percentage of miles one gets on US partner ff programs for cheap Air France tickets is:

            CO - 50%
            NW - 25%
            DL - 0%

SYD to LHR at least AU$1500 + taxes - low season. High season over AU$2000 + taxes!

Also bear in mind that if you change planes in Paris on the way to London you will be limited by the European restrictions on hand luggage. Unless things change by August you will definitely be caught up in them on the way back out.
This link gives details of the limits when flying from EU airports.
This link provides further information and advise for those whose flights start outside the EU.

I agree with Keith; there are other considerations besides money. Transiting CDG would be one of them

Find the Lowest Airfare Prices, Discount Airline Tickets & Cheap Flights on FareCompare.com

With a base fare of 208 USD r/t, I don't think it'll go much lower.

Also, FWIW, I paid 658.00 US exactly a year and two weeks ago for a March (2006) flight SFO-MEL (Melbourne, Australia) on UA. Great deal Earned over 64K RDM's on that one ...

I chickened out about a month ago and paid $732 each from Atlanta to Manchester England in June. I just looked over the weekend and they're up to $1100 now. Pat gave me good advice when she told me I should go ahead and buy.

I could have gotten something just a bit cheaper out of JFK or Dulles, but I think we're going to be able to park free in Atlanta, plus it's closer.

I need to call AA and figure out how many miles these flights will net. Budget Travel had an article this month about AA giving challenges to go gold and platinum if you call and ask them. I don't fly enough any more to be elite on any of the airlines, but I have one domestic AA flight booked for August, so this might work out for me.
