  • I love when it works out this way - Priceline

Dh and I are going to La Jolla (just north of San Diego) in May. I already had a car reserved through Avis. I have a corporate discount and usually find the best rates that way. I decided to play around with Priceline today. My bid of $18/day for a full-size was accepted for a total of $118.00. It is with Avis and beats the corporate rate I had of $243.00. I'm saving $115.00!!!

      Nice deal!
I've gotten some great car deals in California but yours has me shaking my head.

that's a great deal, Luanne! I haven't used PL for cars, will take another look. I'm just not used to the idea of paying up front for rental cars, but it may be worth it.

I looooove Priceline. I wish we traveled to hotels more so I could bid more often.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Have never used priceline for car rentals, but Priceline has saved me money on Hotel Room's.

Before I use Priceline, I always go to BiddingFortravel.com - The informed Priceline Travel Bidding Forum for information and advise on using priceline.

                $118.00 from $243.00 for a full-size car, that’s a good deal.

Now if we can only get airfares to go down

I did go to biddingfortravel first (I usually do before bidding). But I kind of have my own method for bidding anyway. I bid under what my current reservation is for, usually by quite a bit and then play around if the first bid isn't accepted. In this case I had a reservation for a mid-size car for about $40/day (with taxes and fees included). I checked biddingfortravel for the San Diego airport. There was nothing for the dates I was looking for, but I did find a bid accepted for $18. I started at $12 for a standard, then upped it to $15 for a mid-size, then to $18 for the full-size. It worked.

Next time try using some of these codes.

                    Car Rental Agency Discount Codes

they are also from the bidding for travel website.

Whenever I've used any of those codes, or other websites, they generally do not beat the corporate discount I have. Believe me, I've tried them all.

What about the Florida State Gov't employees code through avis????

                        A113400??

Or the Avis Employees discount code A153700 ??(have a backup for this one just in case) I have heard they sometimes want proof, or an approval letter.

I haven't tried those. But, just for fun I'll go in and see what kind of price I get for the dates I needed. I'll be back.

haha ok ....waiting Patiently...lol Alot of the codes depend on the location, rental company and length of rental. I used the Florida state govt code for a rental van in FLL. I got it for $36 for 24 hrs. I am going to LAX next weekend and that code didnt work so well for me.
