Dh and I are going to La Jolla (just north of San Diego) in May. I already had a car reserved through Avis. I have a corporate discount and usually find the best rates that way. I decided to play around with Priceline today. My bid of $18/day for a full-size was accepted for a total of $118.00. It is with Avis and beats the corporate rate I had of $243.00. I'm saving $115.00!!!

Have never used priceline for car rentals, but Priceline has saved me money on Hotel Room's.
Before I use Priceline, I always go to BiddingFortravel.com - The informed Priceline Travel Bidding Forum for information and advise on using priceline.

I did go to biddingfortravel first (I usually do before bidding). But I kind of have my own method for bidding anyway. I bid under what my current reservation is for, usually by quite a bit and then play around if the first bid isn't accepted. In this case I had a reservation for a mid-size car for about $40/day (with taxes and fees included). I checked biddingfortravel for the San Diego airport. There was nothing for the dates I was looking for, but I did find a bid accepted for $18. I started at $12 for a standard, then upped it to $15 for a mid-size, then to $18 for the full-size. It worked.Luanne
