Another tip for bidding on cars or hotels with Priceline--go over to Hotwire FIRST and see what they can offer you. Then bid well under those prices on Priceline.

          Also there's biddingfortravel.com and betterbidding.com.

We got a great deal on a car in Chicago last summer on Priceline, similar to Luanne's deal. Our trouble is that we sometimes want a car from the local Hertz, Avis, or Enterprise or whatever, but you can only go airport to airport on Priceline and Hotwire.

I wish Priceline would come up with a way to make their airfare bidding usable--unfortunately the way it is, you can end up leaving at midnight with three stops on the way from Newark to Pittsburgh.

I read all of the "big discount, no changes, no cancellation" policies on Priceline. How does it work with Priceline if the airline reschedules or cancels a flight? Do you have the option to revise the pick up time?

That's not the case. You can specify no red-eye flights and a max of one connection.

Alas, that's not enough for me. I don't even want to make one stop. Especially from Newark to Pittsburgh.

I responded because I wanted to make sure that the people less familiar with Priceline didn't get the wrong impression from your thread.

Otherwise, I agree that Priceline's system bidding for airline tickets isn't very attractive. With all of the bidding I do on Priceline, I've only seriously considered them for airline tickets no more than five times, and I've only done airline tickets with them once.

To me the big problem with them is the inability to specify whether the flight departure is morning or afternoon. I don't mind flying either first flight out in the morning or last one of the day before red-eye flights. Most of the time I just need to know before I bid which one I'm going to get if I'm successful.

I don't think anybody is too happy with Priceline's arrangements for flights.

Last month my DD had to go on a trip for one day, but she had to leave in the morning of the first day and come home in the evening of the second day. Priceline can't handle something like that at all, because they may well put you on a flight leaving the evening of the first day and coming back on the first flight of the morning.

And really, I do object to stops.

I wish they had options available on Priceline. I would definitely try them for airfare if I could specify morning or evening and nonstop. That would be enough.

On the other hand, most of the flights I take are absolutely packed, so I guess the airlines don't really need Priceline!

I'm not sure. Luckily I've never had to find out. I think if you are late picking up your car there wouldn't be a problem. If you tried to pick it up earlier, or return it later than what you had contracted with Priceline there would probably be additional fees.

Nice move. I usually cross check with price line for my rental cars too. They could not touch the price I got with Rental Car Discounts and Codes for my Big Island HI rental over spring break. Who knows at any given time...it is all supply and demand.

On car rentals they ask for your flight information. So if you were late to pick up the car because your flight arrived late, you would probably be okay.

Ooops, I forgot they ask for flight info. You're probably right.

As far as the rental companies are concerned, PL and HW reservations are simply pre-paid reservations. They don't get processed or handled any differently from any other pre-paid reservation.

I knew you could specify number of connections...but didnt know you could avoid red-eyes or lay-overs. I've bid on airfare there twice and did well...but have since seen other flights that actually included an overnight stop and was thinking how lucky I was not to have gotten something like that or a flight leaving at 11pm.
