  • Puerto Vallarta: Where have u stayed?

    Hi there,

I belong to Interval International, where have you all stayed in Puerto Vallarta? We would like to stay at a high end place, not a dump with bad service!!

I am not sure if you can get a Grand Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta with II http://www.timeshareforums.com/forum...hp?resort=4794. If not try using SFX or RCI if you can. There is also Ocheo Casdios OK I know I completely spelled this wrong. And for some reason it is not in our resort data base. IMO is that these 2 are best there.

Ocho Cascadas, villa #6 is fantastic. Hard to get in though...start early if you're going to request an exchange there.

What is "best" depends on one's interests.

We stayed at the Mayan Palace in Nuevo a couple of weeks ago. For our tastes, it's a bit too far from town. For future visits we'll probably stay at the Club Regina in the Marina area.

But for people who are more interested in spending time in a pool, on the beach, soaking up the sun, playing golf in a quiet and uncrowded setting at a luxurious resort, etc., the Mayan Palace or Grand Mayan in Nuevo would be great.

Heck, if you wanted, you could go to one of the Mayan's in Nuevo Vallarta and totally pretend you weren't even in Mexico for your entire stay. That's not attractive to us, but I know there are some who love the idea of going to Mexico without ever feeling as if they are outside the US.

We really liked the Club Regina. It is in the marina area where you will find a variety of restaurants. It is also a short taxi ride, or for a lot more fun - bus ride - into the center of PV. When you are in PV, and you want to see how the other 1% live, take the homes tour. You will see it advertised in local papers. You get to go inside 3 - 4 beautiful homes, worth several million $ each.

Love the sounds of the Mayan...right now the exchanges on Interval's website absolutely suck...ALL of the hotels have had miserable reviews on traveladvisor....is this what I get for a timeshare when I plan something on short notice? Do I always have to give a years notice to get something???

You should start a search a year out. Short notice will get you left overs or cancellations. You also can get the windows open up with in the last 30-60 day window. Meaning that trading power is no longer an issue.

Trading Places also has Mayan Palace in pretty large quantity. Try using them for exchanges to Mexico. SFX offers Mexican bonus weeks for qualified deposits. It is very easy to get Mayan Resorts with those.

We stayed at Mayan Palace in February using a bonus week from SFX. It is a lovely resort but isolated from easy travel to the towns nearby. Great service & plenty of dining, etc. but hardly a "mexican" experience. More like being in any huge American resort. Fine if that's what you like. Just not the cultural experience we go to a foreign country to enjoy. Might as well save the airfare & go to Phoenix or Hilton Head.

ETA: and be prepared to rise at 5am to go to the pool & save your lounge chairs. It is the common practice although completely against the rules. Most people there seem to think the rules don't apply to them.

I own at the Villa Del Palmar, PV. It is a nice place and not too far from town. The sister resort which I also have access to is Villa Del Palmar - Flamingoes. It is in Nuevo Vallarta which is farther out of town, but only a couple of years new and extremely nice.

Where do you own at? I would be open to a trade depending on where you own.

We spent a week at Lindo Mar and really loved the resort, especially the view, the restaurant and the El Set restaurant next door. I would return there in a minute.

We got our unit through Trading Places, but I see that RCI and II also have Lindo Mar available for exchanging.

Two other couples stayed at the Krystal and really liked that place, also. Sherry (my daughter) loved parasailing from the beach and riding horses on the beach there - almost every night. The Krystal is much improved since I was last there (before the hurricane)

I have put 15 albums of pictures (on my webshots site) of our trip to PV, including Lindo Mar, the Krystal, the Sea Lion Encounter, El Set Restaurant, La Palapa Restaurant, Celito Lindo boat tour to Las Animas, and others. My daughter provided the pics of the horseback riding and the Fiesta at Krystal, which we didn't attend. Some pictures are also on myspace--webshots lets you put them in a slideshow on there, too.

We have also stayed at villa del palmer twice. First time we got an oceanfront 2br unit and had a great time. Loved the location which was a short bus ride to both the marina area and downtown. Resort is not fancy but 2 br was very comfortable and pool was nice. Second time got a bonus week in a studio near the main road. Didn't like the studio especially since we had no view. Big let down after oceanfront 2BR but still had a great time. Location is still a big consideration. I know a lot of resorts in nueva vallarta are nicer and have better beaches but we really enjoyed downtown Puerto Vallarta and Marina area for restaurants, people watching, entertainment and general atmosphere. Don't know how that would compare to being away from all of the action in Nueva Vallarta.

Puerto vallarta is still one of our favorite mexican vacation destinations and would definently go back.

We have stayed at Paradise Village in Nuevo Vallarta or does it have to be in PV only? We enjoyed staying there. It has a beautiful beach.

I know that the Buganvilias trades with SFX but is in RCI. The location is great as you are close to downtown where most restaurants are but it doesn't have a nice beach and it got worse after the hurricane but the pool makes up for it.

If you want to be pampered and stay at a nice resort, go to the Grand Velas but it is in NV too and doesn't belong to II either. It is an A-I resort which many people do not like so it doesn't trade with SFX.

I don't know what you call luxurious or a dump because that is so different for each one of us. To us, location is more important than luxurious accommodations but having that too is double nice.
