  • How Popular is Phoenix in April

I just booked my Sheraton Desert Oasis week for next April. Because of the way the school calender works out with Easter and Passover, our district has a full week off in April for Passover, and only a few days at Easter. Easter week is always a very popular week to travel. How popular do you think this Passover week 4/19-26/08 will be? I'm debating if I should book airfare 331 days out, or wait and see what the fares will look like. Thanks.

Keep an eye on SW from Islip.

That airport is inconvenient for me but I got pretty good flights and rates on AA in January for our Easter flights last year out of LGA in April.

They were $250RT. You can do better with SW though about $200 if you get them when the dates open.

I would also check Jet blue. We got our best price from Jet Blue for President's Week to Scottsdale.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I don't think it will be all that popular at the resort BUT flying out of NY might be a challenge as MANY districts are off that week.

But because it is April, I don't think it will be as bad for warm weather locations as when the vacation is in March and coincides with many college spring breaks.

If you are going to consider SW airlines, make sure you subscribe to their Ding fares. They send daily emails and you can identify which airports you want to see low internet fares.

Their Ding fares are usually 30 to 60 days out. But they do have some good low cost fares.

Last year we were there in April. The 7th thru the 14th and the flights were PACKED to Phoenix.

The problem is there are very few <if any> direct flights to Phoenix from NYC airports added on to all our schools being off for Passover. I got real lucky with the price I got buying them so late. They hovered around $350 forever.

Okay, I don't know anything about Phoenix at all...but isn't that where they were saying those scary centipedes live?

No I believe that the centipedes you are talking about are in Hawaii. Now, scorpions and other desert creatures, yes.

Phoenix is pretty popular in April, especially around the breaks for school.

Golf is also a big draw here.

As for airfare, definitely keep an eye on SW and JB...they will offer you pretty good fares, but you need to catch it.

Also, AirTran and don't overlook USAirways.

As for centipedes, yes, they exist in our sunny state, but don't worry about them, you won't see them in Phoenix. And mshatty is right, scorpions and rattlers...they are more likely! Again, just use common sense, don't leave clothing on the floor, hang it up. If you have a damp towel ... be careful when picking it up or taking it off the rack as moisture is what attracts the little devils....they, like us human beings are seeking to quench thirst.

I am pretty sure you have been to SDO before, Ann-Marie, but if I can help with anything, let me know.

We are from New Jersey and we like to visit my parents during school breaks in Phoenix (ahh...to spend the winter there every year...). We plan to go again next year but our school break is March 23-30, right after Easter. I hope we'll find affordable flights too!
Previously, I have searched for flights from Newark and Philadelphia from around November on and I find price breaks beginning in early January for March flights. I have not looked for April as a rule, primarily March, though I do remember that prices went up a bit from around the third week of March onward for a month or so. Still, my impression is that most flight prices for Feb, Mar, Apr generally trended down after Christmas. We have gotten flights out of Newark or Philly for around $200 for March. Southwest is definitely one to check. We've also made out well with Northwest.
Of course, waiting is always a gamble. I agree that anything under $300 is reasonable.

As for airfares, don't forget to directly check the airlines themselves, not just expedia, etc. Often the airlines offer lower fares on their own site that are not spotted thru the travel sites.
