  • Gas is over $3 in NY

Gas is now at $3.15 near me. If I drive about a mile or two I can get it for just under $3.10. Lucky from me I will be driving into Jersey this week were gas is under $3 a gallon. There are just to much taxes on the gas in NY that is making the matters worse than what it is. I bet if they had to remove the taxes to help consumers then they would find a way to lower it.

Current average price in the UK is about 94p per litre. Multiply that by 3.785 to give a US gallon and it comes to £3.56. Multiply that by 2 for the exchange rate and you have $7.12 per US gallon...

        Hi Keith,
We are leaving for Europe on June 9th for a 6 week trip. Five weeks in the U.K. and 1 week in Austria. I heard the average in the U.K. is $8.37 to $8.97 a gal for gas, and $6.82 in Austria and Germany. OUCH!!!!! Hey Frank, when we get back to the U.S.A. gas prices will seem like a bargain !

          No way. That sucks.
I will be doing a lot of driving. It might pay to take the train on some trips.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

When Hybrid first came out the big debate was that it did not pay to buy a Hybrid because of the high price you are paying for it. When you added up the price of the car and the saving on gas. It would have taken 5 years to break out even and any extra savings would come after the 5th year. Now Prices on the Hybrid have come down a little but not much. With the price of Gas going where it is now and higher. I will guess to sat that it may take now only 3-4 years to break out even. If you are planing to keep the car it pays to go Hybrid , if you are going to get rid of the car every 3-4 years it does not pay to buy a Hybrid. Another reason I did not buy a hybrid was the size and style. The only Hybrid we really took interest in was the Lexus. I felt it was to small and was not as nice as the standard Lexus r 330 truck. Now I was at the car show last week. Ford will be coming out with a large SUV Hybrid soon as well as other car manufactures. So the market is making a slow change.

The last time we looked it d/n pay. We'll see what happens with the next lease. A friend of mine just bought a Toyota Prius. Too small for us, I think, but I may check anyway.

I suspect the confusion comes from the UK (Imperial Gallon) being larger than the US. The UK gallon is roughly the figures you quote.

$ 3.15 in town here too. It looks like $ 4.00 is just around the corner. The only way to stop it would be a national do not drive day with 80-90% participation, but that will probably not ever happen. I fear the economy will suffer from fuel caused inflation and bring us to a recession.

It's been well over $3.00/gallon out here for quite awhile. We were driving back from Sonoma last weekend and stopped at a gas station to use the restroom. When I came out dh was filling up the car since the gas was "only" $3.29/gallon. In our area it's $3.49/gallon (for regular).

Luckily, DH and I work near each other - so I think we will start car pooling 1 or 2 days/wk if our schedules allow.
I only work 3 days but still - something is better then nothing.
I am also glad I have most of my long distance airfares locked in.....it is going to affect us all in many ways.

Yep it's sure expensive over there. I about died when I did the exchange rate during our UK trip last November. A tank fill-up (small Ford station wagon) was $95-$100!!
