I love my VW turbo diesel. At least 28 MPG around town and around 40 on the highway. One sold today on ebay just like mine for $24,500. That is more than 90% of what I paid for mine out the door 2 years ago. TDIs have the highest resale % of any car I have ever seen. Most cars you drive off the lot and you lose 15%.

Hybrids don't get the mileage they advertise, do some research on the net. Also to consider if you buy one and plan to keep it long enough to justify the extra cost of the hybrid, did you consider the battery replacement of about $2,500 after about 8 years???? That sure cuts into the gas savings.

I saw $3.00 gallon here in Arkansas for the first time this weekend. I would think anyone traveling this summer will pay $4.00 gallon somewhere.

I have a close friend who is a big shot at Virgin Air. He said it used to be that airlines used to hedge there fuel and buy it in bulk when the prices were low. They all fell upon hard times and some had to sell there fuel to get out of bankruptcy. Now I think he said only 1 or 2 airlines can afford to buy in bulk. The rest have to buy as they go at todays prices. Airline tickets for summer are going to be Bad if this keeps up. On another note Jet fuel is not the same as car fuel. I believe it costs much more but is in a different scale so it does not move the same as gas does.
