Welcome. Are you coming to this site for the travel tips?

Timeshare is one of the travel lodging tools. The other travel lodging tools I can think of are
1. Visit long distance friends and live in their home
2. get a hotel and manage other travel yourselves.
3. get a hotel with the air package
4. take a guide tour that include travel/hotel
5. 2nd home
6. short term rental
7. YMCA, campground ....
8. DC, fraction, condotel
9. cruise ....
10. vacation club (most are scam though)
....


Basically, you purchase a slot of time or points in a place, so you can visit there as owner during the time you own. You split the cost with other owners. Hence the term timeshare. Since it is a shared ownership, so usually it has no or low resell market (which does nt mean it has no values), but you will have to pay MF.

It best to look at this as a commitment to take vacation.
