I am thrilled that Petra made it! It is my daughter's favorite place in the world.

I've seen 2 and will have to be satisfied with those; I can't see myself seeing the rest anytime soon!

            Same here.

I just saw the Alhambra, in Granada, which was being considered. If it had had it made, I would have seen 2.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

I wonder how the Brazilian statue made it over several that didn't. If one had to pick an ancient Roman coliseum, there are several outside of Rome that are more intact.

Allowing the masses who have for the most part probably never seen any of these things to vote on which make the list is amateurish. The ancient list was at least compiled by experts who had more knowledge in compiling their list.

                  New list, not new wonders

When I read of the "new seven wonders" I thought the wonders would be new as well as the list. I wonder what a committee of architects and civil engineers would propose as a list of seven new wonders, e.g. less than a century old?

I've seen the Colosseum, but that's it.

Also, these are all artificial rather than natural wonders. Isn't there a list of seven natural wonders somewhere?

Yes there are 7 Natural wonders....they are Grand Canyon in Arizona (highly recommend going and seeing the new sky walk...AMAZING), Great Barrier Reef, the Northern Lights, Victoria Falls, a Volcano in mexico (of course I can't pronounce let alone spell it's name), the Harbor in Rio de Janeiro and Mt. Everest. They all fit into my life long goal of all 50 states, all 7 continents and all 7 wonders!

I've got something growing in my fridge that's pretty spectacular. I think that should make the list.

A quote from the article is here:
"Archaeologists said the Mayan ruins, at Chichen Itza in south-eastern Mexico could be hit by an avalanche of additional visitors and that the extra wear and tear could force authorities to limit the tourist traffic."
This is what happened at Stone Henge too. You really can't feel the very special experience anymore as you can only look on from a distance today.

To me, Stone Henge was very special. You wonder how they did it so many years ago when they didn't have the tools of today and the same for the Mayan ruins. Was there another advanced Civilization ahead of us that got wiped out? That sounds like the only explanation to me and are we next to be wiped out again?

It's funny but my SO discussed Stone Henge today because you can't compare it to the Eiffel Tower which was only a temporary structure for a fair. It must have been on the news today that he brought the subject up.

Yay Chichen Itza! (Although I personally prefer Monte Alban in the MX state of Oaxaca).
