  • Winter in July

Ok, I've decided I hate the sun.

Yes, I said it! I'll say it again. I hate the sun.

I have come to the conclusion that summer is my least favorite season. It's hot and humid and sticky and all those other nastly little words. So, I am now going on the hunt for a place that has winter in July. I want a break from the heat. I would much rather go sit at some ski or snow resort and drink hot chocolate.

Do any of you know of a good resort that would be in the mountains and would see some snow in July? It would likely have to be in the southern hemisphere, but maybe I am unaware of something far north. Like maybe Alaska. I don't know. Any thoughts?

    Melting,

    Big Papa

Do you actually want to ski in July or just be refreshed looking at the snow? If you're looking to actually being on the slopes, Mammoth Mountain, CA sometimes stays open until the 4th of July - if they get a good snow year. The nearest resort would be Heidelberg Inn - but that's at June Lake - not Mammoth Lakes.

Another possibililty would be Mt. Bachelor near Bend, Oregon. They have a long season. but I'm not sure when they shut their lifts down or what resorts may be nearby.

If you just want some winter-like scenery, perhaps Cliffs Lodge or Iron Blosam at Snowbird, UT might be your ticket. In a good snow year, the Cottonwood Canyons get tons of snow. Due to the steepness of the terrain and general lack of interest, the lifts would not be operating in July - but you might enjoy the scenery. In Colorado, something near Wolf Creek or Telluride may be interesting. Never been there in July, but both have long ski seasons.

Other areas that might have some snow are the resorts near Banff, Canada. While the days will be warm, the overnight lows will make you think of winter . Finally, Whistler, Canada might be interesting. Again, no skiing in July, but they have a lot of timeshares there.

Bariloche Argentina in the Patagonia region. German type town, lots of chocolate shops, cute stores and skiing, beautiful mountains. Or hit the Chile side. Very lovely area.

Actually, I believe that you can ski at Whistler year-round, you just have to go higher up.
