Air France only occaisionally offers deals on that connection, US to London via Paris. Other airlines offer it more often. The old Belgian carrier Sabena used to offer it all the time via Brussels. The problem is that coming back, as I understand it, the Brits will still pop you for the tax on such a connecting ticket through another country if it is on the same ticket leaving the UK. My plan (never used since my last UK flight was just prior to the tax, and I have recently started working in Europe and will not need to worry about the long haul tax) was to use LCC's on a seperate ticket, probably with open jaws. Fly into London (the big tax is only on departure), and out of some other European city, using an LCC to fly from London to that other city. This had the added advantage of having a short visit to another country on the trip.

We just flew thru Shannon Ireland from NYC to and from London and saved about $250/ticket.

Don't worry about making a connection from London to Edinburgh, think BMI fly about 3 or 4 times a day.

If you book with Virgin I think they are partners with BMI so should be no problem.

We have flown from UK to USA for the last 4 years, have always chosen Virgin, its a great service and can recommend their Premium Economy service, extra legroom, dedicated cabin staff, better service all round. If you fly from New York on a jumbo it's even better as cabin is upstairs, very peaceful, well worth it. Watch out for sales Virgin Atlantic have them all the time, they seem to coincide with BA sales, odd that!

Have flown BA World traveller plus and was not impressed at all.

Also if your budget stretches to it why not try Maxjet or Silverjet, they are all business class, yet good prices especially if you book early. But your connections to Edinburgh may not be so good as they flight out of Stansted and Luton, rather than Heathrow

Used US Air, Delta, American, Lufthansa all in Biz Class using Frequent Flyer Miles.

I would go with whoever has FULLY reclining seats for a good rest.

            Cheers

We chose Virgin Atlantic-- but unfortunately didn't get anything special.. regular ole economy class--- The price difference was over $800 a ticket!! something I just don't have. But we are looking forward to a great trip and hopefully we will sleep our way across with our 11pm take off!
