    Somethings to think about.
Two very valid points made here. The RV route certainly gives more freedom to move when you want but at a cost. It would certainly be considerably cheaper to rent a car and book B&B as we go. We tend to travel outside the main school holiday periods so obtaining B&B as we travel shouldn't be too much of a problem. We might need to book in advance if we plan to visit out of the way areas, but then we simply schedule in other stops around the pre-booked ones.
The stress levels of driving a house on wheels certainly shouldn't be overlooked either. If we do go RV I know my wife won't drive. On the other hand if we rent a car I actually enjoy the driving and won't want her to drive and that can create other stresses
The only time I've been concerned driving in US/Canada was travelling back to Calgary from Canmore. The road was being resurfaced and they were doing it one lane at a time. That meant there was a fairly high ridge between the two lanes. I was concerned about how I would get between lanes if I needed to get to an exit. Fortunately the roadworks ended before that happened.
