Has anyone ever had a seat assignment disappear? I booked flights from BTV to AUA for Feb.14,2008 on 6/11/07 through Orbitz. On 6/11/07 I chose our seats and they were confirmed. We have had the same seat assignment since that time until 2 days ago when I "lost" my seats on the flight (US AIr).USAir says that they will assign our seats when we check in but that the flight is "very full". This really annoys me and makes me wonder how full the flight is. The Orbitz customer service rep got the same story from US Air about getting our seat assignments when we check in. So, whats the advantage of choosing seats when you buy tickets 10 months early if they don't hold up? I checked and the plane is still the same type so that seat chart should not change. Does anyone have any experience with this? Kathy

Show up at the airport EARLY (think 3 hours) with your dated, written confirmation and seat assignments in hand and be very FIRM (but pleasant) about getting your assigned seats.
Good Luck!

This usually happens when they decide to switch the type of plane (or so they claim) and then dump everyone's seat. Some people get automatically reassigned to another seat, and if they are overbooked, some don't. I'll bet that those who book directly through the airline get reassigned first.
Usually if you show up reallllly early it's not a problem. Usually.

That's happened to me before...I call the airline myself and get it straightened out.
We were traveling with my 5 yo grandson and my cousin and her husband last year to Vegas for a wedding. My cousin's husband is disabled and cannot walk, so I booked seats all together so we could help her. I booked all of our seats together online, but being the person I am, I checked periodically to make sure the seats and/or updates to the flights weren't changed.
Someone had changed our seats so we were scattered all over the place; they had my grandson 5 rows back from us and my cousin's husband in a middle seat!! When I called the airline, they were very helpful and moved other people around to accomodate us. This happened twice!! The representative finally told us to make sure we got to the airport early, so we could insure we were all together.
call the airline and someone should be able to change the seats back unless there are extenuating circumstances, like a handicapped person needing the seat.

I have already called US Air and they said that they can't do anything about the seats until we check in. Since the flight leaves BTV at 0600 that means we have to be at the US Air counter when it opens at 0300. Might as well not waste money getting a hotel!!! I am really nervous about this since the US Air rep said the flight was "pretty full". I will be very happy in 5 years not to have to deal with the nightmare of trying to get anywhere during this holiday week. It really bugs me to have this happen when I booked this trip last June and when I picked the seats they were almost all open. So, I guess Orbitz custoners are second class citizens???? Thanks for the replies-even if they aren't too encouraging!

Have you tried going up the line a few notches with US Airways? Asking firmly for a supervisor when you call reservations? Getting an email address of a person higher up in charge of reservations? Squeaky wheels do get the oil.
Turning up at 3 am to get seats that you have already booked for months is crazy! Let as many people at US Airways know as possible how unhappy you are.

The "loss" of assigned seats started about 4 years ago and no amount of complaining ever seemed to get them back. You had better hope you even get a seat as even that is a question mark with that group now days.
Find an alternative airline in the future and get there early for this flight is my advice.

Post or PM me your flight numbers and I'll look it up on the GDS...
If you OLCI at the 24 hr mark and are denied, then you know there's going to be an issue. This is one big plus of elite status (rarely do equipment swaps/schedule changes wipe out seat assignments).
