  • SWA - web only price increase!

Did not expect Southwest to increase their web-only price from $69 to $96 overnight! I have been watching those fares for SJC - LAS for couple of weeks now, and suddenly I see this $30 increase. I am bummed!

Try checking the fare on Tuesday. If you book on a Tues you get their lowest fares...

I just noticed elsewhere that you are going in February. President's week? You are way late for that with Southwest. Try US Air, maybe, or anyone.

Now if you are willing to drive to Stockton, the fare is only $29. each way on Allegiant. But I guess that's too far.

          Fern,

It is for Feb 10 - 17. Until the end of last week I kept seeing fares at $69, but starting yesterday the fares are increasing quite a bit. $96, then $111 and now it is at $121. Looks like I missed it big time. Oh well... live and learn!

It is not a fare increase by SWA. It is simply that they are sold out of that price category. You have to book flights to Las Vegas fairly early to get the cheapest fares.

We are going to Las Vegas 2/14-2/20 2008. I booked our tickets on SWA from ONT-LAS for $123 r/t ( 54/49 ) including all taxes. I booked them on 1/15/2008. I just checked a few minutes ago and the fare has dropped to $116 r/t ( 48/48 ) including all taxes. I just went back to SWA on-line and changed the fare to the new lower fare so they have credited me with the difference. Same confirmation number etc., just a lower fare.

John, it is hard to believe seats sold out as far out as March 15 - overnight!

I see this happen all the time. They have a limited number of seats at the web price. The web price will also vary as it did in my case where it dropped after I booked my flights. Switching to another day often makes a lot of difference. The worst days to travel are Friday, Sunday, and Monday.

Glad I could help. It's a quirk in their system...

Thanks for the Tuesday tip Fern. I was able to go in yesterday, and get a few credits on flights I'd already booked. Most of the prices had not gone done, but a couple had. So, I have have a credit sitting in my Southwest account.

Tuesday is not the only day of the week with cheaper fares. Wednesday, Thursday, and often Saturday are equally good. Saturday varies somewhat with the destination but usually is as good as the other days.
