  • Disney World Area

We are taking our grandchildren to Cocoa Beach in June and going to take them to Disney World for a day or two and want a place to stay one night close to the parks. Any suggestions?

How old are your grandkids? My kids are dying to stay at the Nickolodeon hotel. We drive past it and they go bezerk begging to stay there! If you wanted to stay offsite, I'd look into that (if they're the right age-- mine range from 6 to 12). It's looks really fun.

Do you have any Starwood points? If you want to stay onsite, I think 10,000 points for a night at the Dolphin or Swan is one of the best deals out there, considering you get the Disney shuttle buses and extra magic hours, etc. It is in a great location, right by the Boardwalk, walk to Epcot, short boat ride to MGM (or Epcot).

How about renting from a DVC member? Then you could stay right on property and add the Dining Plan and have lots of fun! Last Sept. I rented from a DVC member and it was really reasonable. I rented a studio at Old Key West for $88.00 total/night.

Weeknight OKW studios are only 8 points in the two lowest seasons in DVC, and $11/point is right about the going rate. So that may be a good option for you, depending on what the day/date is.

Just realized you said June in your original post. So June 1-10 is 10 points, and June 11-30 is 11 points/night. So $110-$121. Not bad.

How do you go about renting points, etc., we are not a DVC member.

There is a forum on The DIS Discussion Forums - DISboards.com - Powered by vBulletin called "DVC-Rent/Trade". You have to be logged in as a registered user to see it. You could check there. There are two different types of rental transactions that go on there: renting points and renting reservations. Since you are not a DVC member, you can't rent points, you need to rent a reservation. If you get stuck, let me know. I generally use all my points, but I probably wouldn't miss 10 or 11.

If it is just 1 night why not try Priceline if you have more that 2 or 3 you can bid for 2 rooms.

Another on-property option would be Disney's Value Hotels, like Pop Century or All-Star Movies. I put random weekday June dates into Hotels.com and they came up at $109. Nickelodeon Family Suites came up at $156.
