  • I chose United to Orlando

This is just for reference & comparison.

With all the hoopla, I was getting nervous about getting to Orlando in mid October. I did something I swore I'd never do after our last experience with United in SFO. I booked with United. Our tickets are $400RT each out of Modesto through SFO. It may not be the best price but Modesto is an easy drive for us and the parking is free. We don't have to deal with the hassles of long lines & check-in at SFO since we will be done with all that in Modesto. We usually fly out of Sacramento and do the whole park & fly deal. We won't have to do that this time so that saves me $125 motel cost. I'm happy to have my tickets purchased & car rental reservations in place with Hertz Gold. Now I can stop worrying and look forward to our vacation. My only problem is figuring out how to pack for 2 weeks including a cruise in only one suitcase!

I met a couple in Cancun a few years back that packed for two weeks in Cancun in a carry-on bag only. I guess it takes discipline and better wardrobe planning than I could come up with.

That's a great price, I think! I booked for next February (American) from the Northeast for $308 all in...so considering you're flying a lot further, and from an airport close by, that sounds great.

Wow Sharon that is a high price if you are flying from LGA or JFK. I have paid $140 up to $189 tops. Maybe now with Fuel costs going up $200 but for Orlando I can not see paying more than that, If you have to pay that much look at Amtract, I believe it is about $200 or less. Of coarse there is Driving to.

Juile , Why only 1 suitecase? You mean 1 Suitcase PP right.

Frank I don't know who you are are flying but I was thrilled to get $239 pp all in with taxes to Sarasota.

I do agree that $308 is pretty high. That's my median price for JFK/LAX.

Sarasota is not Orlando, Orlando is the cheapest area to fly into Florida.

Sharon, if you are talking about week 7, then I think you did great. I have been shocked at how expensive it is to fly to Orlando for our spring break trip this year (4/19-26). I know it is a very popular week, but this is crazy. I've been watching since 330 days before and the prices never went below $550 for a decent, nonstop to MCO. We ended up using FF miles, which kills me. I'm still watching for a last minute drop so we can cancel the FF tix and save the miles. We thought about driving, but I'm not sure we would all survive the trip...

On the other hand, I was just able to book my flights for next February (week 7) to Nassau, nonstop for $383 all in. Go figure...

OK well then the times you are going was different from when I was going to MCO, I go in the Summer and can fly during the week, Going on Presidents week, XMAS, or Easter break you will pay more. In that case look at Amtract if you do not want to drive.

One large suitcase to check and a smaller one to carry on. Plan on doing laundry and you should be all set!

Summer from the north to Orlando is actually pretty cheap, because that's the one time of year the weather up here is better than Florida's.

I'm a Week 8 Orlando visitor, and I too have been looking since 330 days out for my 09 flights. My trigger point for direct from either FNT or DTW is $275 (given a typical low of $200)---they were published at $280, and have only gone up. Only NW is playing so far, so I'm going to hold out for Spirit, AirTran, and Southwest to publish to see what happens, but I certainly expect to pay more in '09 than the $220 I paid in '08.
