Best time to book air travel?

I have heard that a time of day, or day of week is better to book air travel for the best fares. Seems to me is was mid week booking was cheapest. Can anyone confirm or correct, and put me to a better booking site? Orbitz is failing pretty bad on a MSP to CHI (Chicago general area) flight.

I've had great luck on Sundays and use kayak.com almost exclusively now.

Hopefully Pat (camachinist) will check-in. He is the airline maven.

I just use Yapta, Kayak and Farecompare to alert me when the prices drop and then I make my calls for reservation.

Low airfare on Spirit Air

You may want to sign up for notices from Spirit Airlines. They run last minute sales (usually 3 weeks out) with weekday fares of only dollars. (SPIRIT AIRLINES - FARE SALE)

What ever I have done in the past is out the window. It used to be mid week and Saturday nights at the wee hours now it is any time any day. I have watched fares from NY to Punta Cana go up and down daily for months,
