I suppose I should be glad that they're just trying to tack on extra fee's that, with a little work I can avoid. I'm not certain how I'm going to tell my wife that, from now on, it's only 1 bag each. Maybe I'll have to start packing just 1 pair of jeans, 2 t-shirts, one dress shirt and one pair of slacks so she can have more room to pack all here "necessities."
I guess since my bag is usually around 35 pounds, we'll have to get some new air removal bags (you know, the ones you compress the air out of to make more room) and crank the weight of each bag up closer to 50 pounds. It won't save the airline a lot of weight, it might save them a little room and it will put more strain on my back but, two bags are easier (and now cheaper) to manage than pulling three bags. The only time I'll have issues is when we cruise. Then it will either be skip the formal night or pay to take the suiter.

Funny. I pack DS13 and myself in one suitcase plus all the toiletries, suntan lotion, etc. I give DH a suitcase for his own and he packs that full as can be.
We travel on 2 checked bags for 3 people. Of course we are talking timeshare here and there is generally laundry to do a midweek wash.

For the life of me I can't figure out why my wife needs to take so much but, I'm not about to question her.
Since most timeshare washer/dryer combo's only hold a couple changes of clothes, I ususally toss the days clothing in before we turn in at night. In the morning I take them out and put them away. I don't need much and I've attempted to get the wife to see it that way but, she still needs two cases, one large and one suiter to take along.
I heard about this last week when we flew from Cancun with AA. What will happen is people are going to be doing more carry ons in the plane. All they are doing is giving there stewards more work to find room to place extra bagage inside. Just think a family with 4 will have 4 carry ons if not more.

Almost makes me want to start travel nursing again so I can earn status by flying back and forth each week to one of the coasts...........almost. I think what I'll probably do is learn to trim down my carry on baggage as I don't need the stress of trying to find a slot for my electronic's. Maybe I'll just leave the computer at home for the week or maybe I'll buy a camera or hunting/fishing vest with all those pockets for storage.
Pinnacle, which is the affiliate that runs NWA's commuter jet service out of Wichita has already cut passengers down to 1 personal item or carry on and they enforce it. I wonder how long before this is enforced even on the larger jets? If this is truely an attempt to either cut down on weight to save gas or to increase revenue, I feel 1 personal item or carry on isn't far behind.
This move really won't cut down on the weight of our luggage. It will just redistribute it between two piece instead of three. As mentioned it's likely to create more work for flight attendents and slow down the boarding process with the additional carry ons, which in turn could decrease the number of on time flights.
Oh yea, I can see the law of unintended consequences come into play with this move by the airlines.
