  • Anyone Ever Had Something Taken From Out Of Their Checked Luggage ?

I'm wondering if there are others who've had this happen. You pack, you check your luggage and when you unpack, not all things made it back.

Had a brand new men's shirt (souvenir for a friend) which was packed, but never made it home. Jet Blue.

Twice I sent things home to my MIL in Hawaii. Twice, an item each time did not make it. United.

I had a camera disappear once on Iberia...I know, never should have packed it. It was heavy and I didn't want something additional to carry.

I've had a book disappear on USAir and some perfume, cosmetics disappear on Delta.

Now, when I travel if I can't get it in a carry-on I don't take it. I can travel to Europe for 3 weeks with a carry on! It really has gotten to be a point of pride with me as to how little I need to pack.

I saw a video where locks are a joke. The person just stuck a pen into the zipper and opened the suitcase. He then removed what he wanted and re-zippered. Try it, it works.

We flew to Cabo, and my friend accidentally packed all of her cash in her checked bag. She was a nervous wreck, but when we arrived it was all there. I find that pretty amazing!!

Me too. I can barely make it in a carry-on, to do an overnighter.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

Gladly, we'll go to St. Marteen together!

I learned several years ago that you can buy toothpaste, shampoo, deoderant, and all that stuff cheap. It's not worth the space it takes up.

I take things that I can wash by hand; if I'm going to be away for any length of time I find a laundry. Coin ops are all over Europe and many places have laundry service where you drop off and oay by the weight. You come back late in the day and everything is washed, hung or folded...it's wonderful.

My friend was going to be in an Indian wedding. She went to London a few months before the wedding and bought beautiful saris for herself, her daughter, and two women in the wedding party (like buying the bridesmaid dresses). All four saris, worth a couple of thousand dollars collectively, were stolen out of her luggage on the way from Heathrow to JFK. She was so upset.

I never had a problem untill this past Febuary using Cayman air. They took 2 brand new Jack Daniels flasks. I reported it and was denied on my claim but was told by a CS service rep that she is working on it and is trying to get the claim paid. She told me it might take 6-8 weeks which her time is now about up. I will email her in a week to see what happened,

                      Something ADDED to a bag!

When we traveled to Aruba this past March, my DDs boyfriend found the empty packaging of expensive perfume in his luggage - probably stolen from someone elses luggage and the packaging stashed in his bag by the thief. Nothing was taken from his bag!

How true and with the TSA rules (that keep changing), I don't lock my suitcase anymore.

I guess I have been lucky, nothing missing from our cases.

But that brings the locks into question again. Isn't there TSA locks, and wouldn't that at least deter some of the ‘bad guys’ from getting into the cases? I haven’t seen any reports on this. Who is opening the cases, TSA or baggage handlers, or is there someone else?

                            Good question.

On the times that I've had things taken from my case, I did not have the "this bag was searched by TSA" notice on top of my things.
I've had my bag searched by TSA w/o anything missing, but who knows what they did with my "frillies" ?
I am going to try the TSA locks next time.
                            Thanks.
