I just redeemed 120, 000 for 4 tickets from Miami to guadalara and it cost me 110 in taxes per ticket. I haven't redeemed miles in years. Has the taxes on skymiles for all airlines so much money now? Thanx for any update.

I redeemed about 240,000 for first class ticket to Greece in September and the cost was around $78 per ticket...did this in October last year for flights this year. I've always paid the taxes and landing fee (considered Federal) whenever I've used FF miles over the years.

The costs have been going up and tickets are harder to find than ever plus many airlines have been lowering your value of miles by making you use more miles to go where you want. I also paid over a $100 to go to Cancun with AA 6 months ago when I booked my flight using miles but I was happy just to use them.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

United Airlines about $99 each
I just booked 2 FF tickets LAX to Sydney, Austrailia on United Airlines for two weeks from now. $99 per ticket. I'm having withdrawals now though as I only have 15,000 miles in my UA account.
I did not look at the detail but some of the cost includes fees and what not.

Normal taxes from NY to Punta Cana are around $140 So if you use FF tickets then I think and could be wrong those same taxes are paid.Timeshareforums Shirts and Mugs on sale now! http://www.cafepress.com/ts4ms

There are two things you have to watch, some countries imposing massive taxes, and airlines scamming you by putting a surcharge that goes to the airline in the ''tax'' category. DL is the only USA based airline to do the latter, and so far only on certain routes.
As far as outrageous national taxes, France started it with a tax on air tickets to pay for welfare in the third world, but that tax is only about $20. Gordon Borwn of the UK made that insignificant by imposed a new tax of over US$100 on air tickets leaving the UK for the stated purpose of discouraging air travel to ''save the planet''. Starting July 1, the center-left government of the Netherlands is also imosed a similar ''save the planet'' air ticket tax of over $100. The lesson is that if you are going to Europe, do not have your departure back to the states from the UK or Netherlands.
The other is much more sinister and is a fraud on passengers. The practice of including a fee that goes directly to the airline in the ''tax'' category was something that started with some European carriers and is now endemic there. DL has started imposing these surcharges on tickets originzting in Europe, but is the only USA based carrier doing so. They have said that they intend to take this shady practice systemwide, and it appears that a brand new surcharge on tickets between Hawaii and California may be the first step in doing so. A few months ago, I found DL award tickets back to the states from Bucharest for my son, but DL wanted over $300 in ''taxes'' which included a $220 ''Delta surcharge''. I called NW and found tickets on better dates, and the taxes were only about $90 with no rip-off surcharge. I told DL to take a hike.
Now with the DL attempt to take over NW, I have a risk that if it goes through they will convert my Worldperks miles into those useless DL ''SkyPiles''. That is an absolutely dreadful prospect.

For now, it is only imposed on TATL flights originating in Europe, not those originating in the US. The code for this surcharge, if I recall correctly, is YQ.

Other airlines are also scamming customers on revenue tickets with those fuel surcharges. The fare they quote is misleading, as it does not include these charges. Since fuel as a necessity to provide the basic service, air travel, it is totally illegitimate to seperate it out and try to hide it in the tax line. The result is false advertising as to fares that is akin to a bait and switch scam.

What you have quoted is from the T&C for transfering miles from one ff account to another, not for using miles for an award ticket, which is what is being discussed in this thread.
