Weather in AR and MO

JLB and Arkansaswinger, I hope both of you are safe and are weathering the storms okay....This also goes for all that live in the area.

I am supposed to be going to Holiday Island in AK on the 24th of this month and have been concerned with the weather.
It sounds like they have consistently been having horrible weather....

Since they have been experiencing tornadoes and the last tornado I remember was when I was six; does anyone have any tips for us?

Also...does it rain constantly or is there intermittent sunshine?

I've been looking forward to this trip and now I'm having second thoughts.
Is the media just sensationalizing the weather or is it really as bad as it sounds?

I don't know the specifics about the locations you mention but our Local Ohio Weather Guessers are always atwitter any time it is other than a sunny day in the 70's. Interruptions, news flashes, panic and running around like chickens with their heads cut off if there is a .00001% chance of something dangerous happening within a 250 mile radius.

OTOH, the Weather Guessers in the Colorado Mountains only get excited when there is a 50% chance of over a foot of snow and that's because skiing is going to be great.

What you are talking about is very different than the 24 killer tornadoes that have happened this year, and (may be off on my number a little) 100 tornadoes that have hit already this early in the season. Heavy damage has been done in the south, where the north (at least my section) has been colder than average, which is part of the reason we have had no real active weather as we normally would have by now.

I do hope that JLB and Arkansaswinger will join in the conversation to let us know from their experience how the weather is in their area.

Sorry I did not mean to belittle the destruction related to the Tornadoes.

Only meant to relate what I perceive as a phenomenon of TV weather reports that frequently do not distinguish between real danger to life and property and using scare tactics to hype ratings.

Not JBL or Arkansaswinger, but I do live in Northwest Arkansas. We have had more storms than normal, but I would not cancel a vacation due to that fact. There is usually sufficient warning to take cover when a storm is nearing. We have also had a lot more rain than is normal for this year; that may affect lake plans. Some areas have experienced flooding, again I wouldn't change my plans. Go and enjoy.

Thank you so much for your feedback concerning the weather.
We drove back from Atlantic City this morning and the weather was absolutely horrific.. 60 mph winds with rain.
I said to my husband we may be experiencing the same when we get to Arkansas...so, we will have to find something to do inside

I will probably ask from time to time over the next 2 wks...

Not JBL either , but I have been posting OY about this.

We've had a rough year--over 50 tornadoes so far (probably 60 after Sat night), more than 20 inches ahead on rainfall, and our four lakes have set record levels, with flooding.

Last Sat night SW MO was hit again, with multiple deaths from tornadoes. One firefighter was killed warning others, and our flags are at half mast for him.

I was watching five confirmed sightings and warning boxes west of us grow into one massive storm, heading for use, with a wedding trying to happpen on the terrace. With about 10 minutes to spare I told the wedding planning to get on with it, even with some key guests not there. Then it was "I do, I do" and a mad dash of everyone to get inside.

After that went through we had straight winds 50-70 mph all night long.

Our nephew, one of the two brothers who went to LA and MS to clean up after Katrina, is a small-town volunteer fire chief/cop/first responder, and he has has had 24-hours (or more) on for search and rescue/evacuation this Spring.

Yesterday I took the floaty boat (only way to get there) out to one of the docks and more than 70 feet of decking, a ladder, and anything that wasn't fastened down is gone. My plan was to floaty boat around the cove looking for the 4-8 decking sheets today, but another front is arriving.

Most visiting Branson would not be affected by any of this.

I think of something flat bottom, duck boat, or maybe even a pontoon boat, but I think you better fill me in on that one.

Seriously, it is a shame that the weather is wreaking so much havoc this year in that area. Glad to hear your safe. I was reading OY about the weather, but I don't think I've seen much since last week, unless I missed it.
