  • Where can I still get good value for the US dollar?

I was planning on going to Europe in 2009, but have now decided the conversion of US dollars to Euros would make the trip too expensive.

I'm looking for somewhere outside of the US, but not Europe, to visit. Any one have any suggestions on what countries, etc., would be a nice vacation?

We're open to the type of vacation. We enjoy sightseeing, exploring, the beach, shopping, eating out, etc.

Any fun & interesting locations come to mind? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. TIA!!

The only one left is Mexico which btw has some of the best resorts, Canada is now equal to us and has gotten expensive to buy.

I don't want to go to Mexico. Not really, anyway.

What about So America? Maybe Brazil, or Argentina?

Carolinian must be sleeping at the moment or on holiday, otherwise a list of former Eastern Bloc countries in Europe would have appeared It's not an area I have travelled to so can't comment, but Carolinian is certainly a big fan.
I'm sure that he'll be here soon.

Looking forward to his reply. The Euro is killing us. We need some affordable places to travel.

                Brazil, Rio, or Argentina

Do you have any idea how our dollar would compare to their currency?

I was watching a travel show this weekend - or else reading a magaazine???

This is the place to go because of the favorable curency - another place is Croatia area of Europe, still a bargain.

Thanks Pat!!! That's encouraging. I don't know anything about Croatia, so I'll have to look into it. I do see availabilities in So America, as well as Croatia in II, so that's also a possibility.

What about the various Islands. How does the dollar stack up to their currency?

I just googled Croatia, and it looks like it has possibilities.

Pristine beaches, enchanting villages and history galore - Croatia's got it all.

I would guess to say Turkey even though they use the Euro. But I would not want to go there. Greece was not that bad even though you lose with the Euro. Food is cheap there.

I just spent 3 weeks there this past Summer. Food was very Cheap, Athens was more expensive but still not bad if you know where to go. We hirded a private cab for 4 days there who took us to better area's to eat at. In Corfu there were places that were almost like a feast. Gyro's were about 3 Euro's
