THE 2008 IT LIST in Hot Spot/Trendy on Concierge.com

    THE 2008 IT LIST

    by Ondine Cohane
Call it travel evolution. While some vacationers always turn to the Same Old year after year (Mickey!), the ever-curious vanguard are on the hunt for the Next. Sometimes their discoveries are exotic and far-flung, other times they are the once-beloved places seeing a renaissance.

The 10 places you'll be hearing about this year share a few common denominators: a new crop of hotels provides creature comforts; the natural appeal is preserved and protected; the buzz has enough substance to make a journey worthwhile. From a low-key Latin beauty to an African gem with spectacular beaches to a couple of resurging cities, these are the places to head next.

    IN THIS STORY

    1. Mozambique, Africa ›
    2. St. Lucia ›
    3. Montenegro ›
    4. Ecuador ›
    5. Sicily ›
    6. San Diego ›
    7. Hainan island, China ›
    8. Oman ›
    9. Puerto Escondido and the Oaxacan Coast ›
    10. Paris ›

Really....well some folks have a lot more disposable income than I. San Diego is the only trendy spot I'm likely to see any time soon. Trendy for me will be Sedona, Palm Desert and the Berkshires next year. At $5 a gal for gas I may be hitchiking or riding my bicycle.

I've been to four. I visited St. Lucia long before it was trendy (1984 or so), and Sicily and Paris in 1999. I've been to San Diego multiple times. I'm not likely to get to the rest.

Other than San Diego and St Lucia those locations aren't even on my radar.

Thanks for posting this article. I live in San Diego and had no idea about these new spots that are on the horizon here!

Most of those wouldn't make it on my radar screen. Been to Paris and hope to get to Montenegro, San Diego and Sicily. But Mozambique? Nah. If I was going to head all the way to China, Beijing would be higher on the list.
