  • Gordon Brown seeks new increase in UK air taxes

In their drive to ''save the planet'' by discouraging air travel, Gordon Brown's regime in London has a proposal out for another increase in departure taxes from the UK, this time to GPB 100 for a trans-Atlantic flight, or nealrly US$200. Fortunately, the United States has strongly objected and threatened legal action against this scheme to hose air travelers. A strong letter of objection containing that threat has been leaked in the British press.

A previous ''save the planet'' air tax had already made the UK by far the most taxing place to fly into in Europe, to be followed July 1 by the Netherlands, whose center-left government is imposing a similar repressive anti-air traveler tax. I wish the US had gotten involved when these tax-happy governments first started this dreadful idea.

This is ridiculous. Planning travel to avoid landing direct London is already happening. I've done it myself. I'm sure many more will be doing same if the higher tax rate is implemented.

If you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.
