Hawaiian Airlines cut a flight I wanted almost 50 percent

I was watching PHX to HNL for Oct 25 to Nov 1. I didn't take it at $400 in December and then the world changed and it was $925. We got antsy and booked USAir at $709 in early June. We're coming home a day early to get that fare. This morning Hawaiian cut their price to $517.

Could be that I learned something today. Four months to the day they cut their price. Cost me almost $400 to learn that lesson but if it's true, it's worth it.

After losing over $3500 on three tickets on two different airlines (credit card company did get our money back) and both airlines folding I wouldn't try again now to book early with any airline!

We had to cancel a Maui trip (May 23,2008 ) that was planned for more than a year.

The way the airlines are changing rules everyday and prices and routes I just will not book again for a while.

Look what happen to you in this case and even though you book early the airlines might change your flight,times or go under.

No one has a clue what these airlines are doing now so for a time we will vacation at our home resort in Lake Tahoe (three and half hour drive) and enjoy it.

If we do fly any where next couple years I would not get tickets 3-4 months early just to try and save a few bucks!

Its just not worth the stress to spend money thinking your saving just to have something go wrong right now. IMHO

Airfares are kind of like the stock market. It's real hard to time the best deal. Now more than ever.

On routes I follow and typically fly I will buy if I see something within a $50 range. I have had very good luck with air for our trips this year and I got VERY lucky with my JFK/LAX tickets. I don't expect that to be the case going forward. On the news tonight they were predicting much much worse come the fall.

Yeah, I know, but I'm a glutton for punishment. I left a Kayak search going even though I booked my flight. I thought they would lower the price to near/around what we paid but 200 bucks less? I didn't see that one coming.
