Get Your Walk Score - A Walkability Score For Any Address

Found this on another site - tells you how 'walkable' your neighborhood is but I thought what a GREAT travel tool.
Put in the address of the Timeshare u are visiting and it gives u the location of the following:

    Grocery Stores
    Restaurants
    Coffee Shops
    Bars
    Movie Theatres
    Schools
    Parks
    Libraries
    Bookstores
    Fitness
    Drug Stores
    Hardware Stores
    Clothing and Music.

Very COOL - will add it to the "Links Directory"

Very cool, and just the thing for me! Thanks, Pat!

Now, what score did your home get? I got a 68, and I live in a VERY walkable neighborhood. Anybody get a higher score? Lower?

My score is 46. But, I already knew it wouldn't be very "walkable". What surprised me was that there were a couple of "grocery stores" and "restaurants" that came up that were residential addresses, and definitely NOT stores or restaurants. Wonder how they came to be included? Hmmmmm, wonder if some of my neighbors have side businesses going on?

My score is 23 But if I want to save on gas (and CO2) I just bring out the bike and get a little exercise.

My walk score was 2. Yes, two.

...which is why the car I bought in December already has 15,000 miles on it.

            Sigh....

Pretty funny. My neighborhood gets a score of 6, but where I work gets a 72. No, I don't walk to work, but I do use public transportation (after a 2.5 mile drive).

I love the idea of using this tool to get oriented for trips to new areas.

Mine says "car dependent," and the score is 18. But its not car dependent, I can golf cart to many of the places listed. And nothing is very far. I had to take my car cross town to the dealer's I bought it from today (which won't be my servicing dealer). I thought it was soooooo far. Turned out it was 15 miles. Things just aren't far away here.

Quarter House in New Orleans is "A walker's paradise," scoring 100 out of 100. Hotel de la Monnaie is "very walkable," at 89.

3!!! And even that is over a mile away...so is everything else. Too many canals and open spaces here....which is just the way we like it.

My Manhattan friend says she's a 100, my Chicago friend (lives downtown) says she's only a 94 and points out that they're not factoring in that the winters are SO DAMNED COLD you couldn't actually walk anywhere.

Also I noticed on my map that they're not looking at topography--we live on top of a big cliff, and some of the stores they are counting as "walkable" are actually straight down a 150-foot drop. If it was flat around here, yes, we could walk to them, but it's not.
