  • What is your biggest travel peeve

What is it gets you realy mad is it when you get a delade air flight
or is it that little know all know nothing person that trys to sell you some thing
is it when you pay big money for accomodation and find it is the dump

Is it waiting most of the day waiting for connecting flights with nothing to do

Is it going to a timeshare presentation with the promise of big things only to find it a let down

My biggest peeve is paying big money for the accommodation and getting the dump of a room

It's difficult to seperate my 2 pet peeves.

    1. People who have checked in for a flight, but seem to think the boarding calls don't apply to them. They only deign to board after the 3rd 'Final Call' has gone out for them by name.

    2. Timeshare / Holiday Club scratch card touts in the Canary Islands. Even responses to them which refer to s*x and travel don't put them off.

Lately, I am having more and more difficulty booking direct flights. Having to waste 7+ hours on a flight that should take 4 - 5 hours, or 12+ hours on a flight that should take 7 - 8 hours is my biggest peeve....

BTW, I'm still keeping track of how many times you annoy me.

For flying, it's the multi-leg flights that extend travel time.
For driving, it toll roads- and particularly those with many toll booths. The Jersey pike and Mass pike do it better.

Bumps can be very good-even where not expected.

My husband is 6'8". My biggest pet peeve is when I see a little old lady that is 5' tall in the emergency exit row who couldn't help out if there ever was an emergency!! Meanwhile he is cramped up in a regular row I guess we'll be first in line to pay the extra money for Exit Row seats.

                travel irritant, airlines in bankruptcy

Normally, I am so glad to be traveling, I do not let little things bother me.

However, recently we sold/purchased a home and got a zillion ff miles (for use on Delta).

So, now I am nervous about upcoming trips this year -- using ff miles on Delta (trying to get rid of them before the demise of Delta/NW/Continental).

I have first class tix to SXM for September (again, trying to get rid of the ff miles), and I am hoping Delta pilots hang in there, and let Delta stay afloat until November.

Another irritant: airlines changing flight schedules (from non-stop), after you have made the arrangements. I can live with this, but I would have made the stopover I wanted, versus the one they wanted me to have.
                hope this info helps,

                sxmdee

Having to fly 13-24hrs to get to U.S. or Europe. The astronomical costs of airfares from Oz and having to save up a few years to afford the airfare for the whole family.

I consider my pet peeve as minor and I still count my blessings everyday that I live in Australia.

People who recline their airline seat and spend the flight with their head almost in my lap.

Just got back from 3 weeks in Aruba! We flew Business Class (FF upgrade) and the man behind me (not obese, infirm or anything) just HAD to grab the back of my seat each time he got up. Same for his companion! And they got up alot! I did NOT have my seat reclined at all. Aaaaah! My other peeve is people with carry ons over their shoulder banging you about the head and shoulders as they get on the plane. Linda

Good ones, Linda. I'm with you on both of those. Even if the person in front of me is fully reclined, I NEVER grab her seat. It really IS possible to get in and out of your seat without using the seat in front of you. Another one I detest is kids who are allowed to climb up over the seat in front of you and drive you nuts. Or ones behind you whose parents allow them to climb on their laps so that they grab your hair with their sticky hands, usually pulling it painfully.

Re: The never-ending recline war...Airline seats surely don't recline very far (not like a Lazy Boy!) so those who say that the person in front of him flies with his head in the passenger's (behind) lap mystifies me. That tired old discussion is nothing more than a tempest in a teapot. If we were not supposed to recline, the seats would not be made to recline.

Being considerate is one thing (such as leaning back slowly and carefully, first making sure the passenger behind you isn't leaning forward in any way, such as to retrieve their carry-on stowed under your seat, or putting the seat back up during a meal) but feeling that because the person behind you is a big person, who deliberately chose not to purchase a first class seat, you don't have the right to recline, is plain wrong.

If someone is of such a size that coach seats don't work for him, then he needs to take care of himself. Sure, it's more expensive. But so is buying tall/plus size clothes. So are longer skis. So are bigger BCDs. So are larger portions than normal of food. It's a fact of life. So do what you need to do and stop feeling entitled to expect the person in front of you to be uncomfortable, sitting up ramrod straight, simply because you don't want to spring for first class.

For me, the behavior of other travelers can ruin it for me. Many examples are listed above. Kindness and consideration go a long way. On airplanes, that seems hard to find.

You're absolutely right, Villa! But it's like everything else. Common decency and kindness toward others seem to be on very short ration these days.

Another good one, Shaggy! Not just little kids do it, either.

Just thought of another one that's happened to me twice in the last few years. It only seems to happen when I have the window seat. It involves looking down to the left at the armrest next to the window, only to see that the clod behind me has taken off his shoes (seems we're always going someplace warm, so that means BARE FEET) and is using my armrest to prop up his feet. I hate having my arms touched repeatedly by someone's gnarly feet. YUCK!!!
