  • Delta's Merger and 3 tier Award Structure

I just received this today in email:
The first part is just sort of a FAQ

As you are likely aware, in April we announced our plans to merge with SkyTeam® partner Northwest Airlines® to create America's premier global airline.

We continue to work toward and are optimistic we will receive regulatory approval for the merger later this year. In the meantime, it remains business as usual for both airlines. The Delta and Northwest organizations are working diligently to ensure that the entire integration process is smooth and seamless, and this includes creating a combined best-in-class frequent flyer program.

Over the last few weeks, I've received several questions from customers regarding the potential effect of the merger on their frequent flyer miles and their elite status and benefits. Please know that:

Your SkyMiles® frequent flyer miles are safe and your status is secure whether you're a Medallion® or a general member.
You will continue to earn Award and elite-qualifying miles as normal, including our more than 150 combined domestic, international and airline partners
You can redeem miles on Delta and Northwest as well as our more than 20 combined SkyTeam and airline partners
Eligible SkyMiles members can continue to redeem their miles in our new Pay with Miles program, at the SkyMiles Online Auction and through our Medallion Marketplace—our merchandise award program
Next month, we'll be launching our new three-tier Award structure, which will give you even more options and choice in Award Travel worldwide. And later this year, SkyMiles Medallions will enjoy the benefit of complimentary upgrades on Northwest operated flights as well as on Delta flights.

    Three Tier Award Structure
In September, Delta will launch a new SkyMiles Award redemption structure that will provide you with more flexibility and options.

The new Award Travel structure will have three tiers starting at 12,500, 20,000, and 30,000 miles for one-way travel within the US domestic 48 states, Alaska, and Canada to destinations worldwide. Miles shown are one-way based on a round-trip Award Ticket purchase. Customers will have access to last-seat Award availability and will be able to combine Economy, First, Business and BusinessElite® cabins and dates at various mileage levels.

    Terms and Conditions apply.

Price (in miles) is based on estimated one-way mileage, starting at:

I got the same email this morning but did not want to even look at it. IMO No matter what they say it will not be easier than it was.

Alaska also recently went to a three-tiered award structure.
“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

“This is a blouse and skirt. I don't know what you're talking about.”

          “You shouldn't wear that body.”
