  • How far do you travel to work?

Speaking of the high price of gas, I was wondering how far most people drive to work each day. I go 13 miles each way.

    As Jacki knows....too far!
    I commute almost 40 miles each way - but I work usually 3 days/week, 9 hour days

edited to correct each way...not day

I don't work any more, but the last three years I worked, it was 66 miles each way. Befiore that we only lived 49 miles each way.

My dh drives 96 miles M-F. I'm a stay-at-home mom and during competivie swim season (which is just about year round) I drive my son to swim practice which is 104 miles roundtrip M-F. I think we are nuts.

This was something that I could not ever do. When I first worked with my company it was a 3 mile trip but there was traffic so those 3 miles was a 20 minute ride. Then my company moved 1 mile from my house and If I took the short cu it was under a mile. ETA 5 min. Looking for a parking spot 10 min. Now I no longer have to worry about that.
My wife however was working 3 years ago at a School near Shea stadium which was about a 7-8 mile one way trip. There was a new School going up a mile from my house but she was happy in the old School as she had a lot of friends. Well they broke into her car and that made her get out of that area pretty fast. She has now been working 1 mile from here and I see her for lunch almost every day. In fact she is so close she is driving me to JFK on Monday during her lunch hour.

How about 1/4 of a mile?

I live about 1/4 of a mile from work. Guess who is the last one to work?
Sometimes it takes me all of 2 minutes to get to work.

PS. But no one ever tells me I'm late. I wonder why? Could it be because I write the checks?

As the crow flies, I'm about 25 miles outside of Boston. As the highways wander I'm about 35 miles outside of Boston.

One question I'm often asked is, how long does it take to get in to work. It takes me 1 hr 20 min, on average. Coming back it takes about the same.

I am a Decorative Artist/Interior Designer, so each job that I have is a new location. Most are in Nassau County or NYC. Driving into the city takes forever and parking is expensive. When in Nassau, I probably drive under 25 minutes to most locations.

                  California Traffic

Well, I'm sure you all know about the California traffic especially in the South Bay. Well, both my wife and I have to commute a whole 6 miles each way and when going we usually only see one or two cars. On the way home we see a few more but never stuck in traffic. Oh, did I forget to say that I start at 5am?

I travel 12 miles each way, my DW has about a 35 mile commute each way. We recently down sized her car because of the high fuel prices.

                          Commute

I drive 26 miles each way to work and it usually takes me 35 minutes. There is hardly any traffic unless I get really unlucky and get behind a school bus.

I walk to my basement and I am at work. Although I do drive 40 miles each way twice a week part of the year to teach accounting classes in Tannersville, PA.

Don't hate me but... I work from home, so it's only a few steps to my office in the back bedroom! Before our field office closed, I worked about 6 miles away, which was a 15 min commute, mostly back roads. Our company is saving a boatload of money not paying rent each month.
