Here is an interesting thread from FlyerTalk. It seems that with all of its junk fees (of which DL is on the cutting edge of among US-based carriers), some ''award'' tickets are now costing more for ''taxes and fees'' than the total all-in price if you just went out and bought the same ticket for cash.

And with jet fuel now costing less than it did a year ago, the ''fuel surchanges'' on all US-based airlines do not seem to be going anywhere. In Europe, at least LCC SkyEurope did eliminate them a few months ago.
