San Francisco suggestions needed

Christmas Day a friend and I are planning to fly to San Francisco. Her sons have recently moved there and she wants to see them for Christmas. Our problem is "where to stay". My friend has limited finances and I want to do as much as I can getting a good trip planned. We will be in SF Dec 25 leaving Dec 29.

Can anyone give me suggestions on a place to stay in the SF area. Any known rentals? Or, hotel suggestions.

Staying in San Francisco is NOT going to be inexpensive. I would suggest using Priceline, but finding someplace during the Christmas holidays is going to be very hard. You can check biddingfortravel and see if they are showing any successful bids for San Francisco for the timeframe you've looking for yet. I truly do wish you luck and hope that someone might have a workable suggestion for you.

Watch travelzoo.com also. I regularly find great prices for SF there. You can use what you find on travelzoo as a backup for your priceline bidding if you want to try and find a better price via priceline. Last time I booked through travelzoo the price was so good I stopped trying with priceline.

Probably the cheapest (and that is relative) is going to be out near the airport. One can take the BART to downtown or around the Bay area.

Thanks for the suggestions...I think I am going to finalize reservations at Le Meridien..rates are $119 and the location looks good. The reviews are really good...
