I did the Battleship New Jersey about two years ago and I have lots of photos on one of our computers. The New Jersey was a really great place to visit as you get to walk through lots of sections of the ship, get inside the big 15-inch guns, the 5-inch guns, etc. The Harpoon and Tomahawk cruise missile launchers as well as the Phalanx defense systems were really neat to see up close.

My kids were four and six and they were very interested at first but after walking around for a wile they started getting a little board with the grand lady. Personally, I could have spent half a day as there is a great deal of things to see on the ship.

Many years ago (oh, say 1983 or so) I got to go on the USS Massechusets. It has been way too many years for me to remember that ship or even where it is located.

We visited the USS Alabama in Mobile several years ago. http://www.ussalabama.com/ It was a great visit if you're a WWII or military buff.

            Do aircraft carriers count?

All we have is the USS Intrepid here in NY :

and the USS Midway is in San Diego

              Not exactly a battleship, but...

...we are doing this in May.

              http://www.patriotspoint.org/

They have an aircraft carrier (with planes), a destroyer, a cutter, and a submarine to tour.

Of course, the USS Constitution (Old Ironsides) is a fantastic ship to visit.

I've driven by Battleship Cove in Rhode Island many times but never managed to stop due to time constraints.

I think it's actually Fall River, Massachusetts.

It’s funny you brought this subject up but last Friday I was at the Alameda shipyard and toured the USS Hornet. It was a pretty awesome ship. Quite large as it is an aircraft carrier. More information can be found at this website: http://www.uss-hornet.org/

Now that you mention it, Rhode Island is probably too small for it.

The Battleship NC is in Wilmington and open for tours. I did it many many years ago and Kelli went on a school trip. They had a hard time getting her off. shaggy

In Wilmington, NC we have the USS North Carolina. Wilmington is about 45min to 1 hour north of Myrtle Beach.
