  • Getting from Atlantic City to NYC - easiest 'non-car' transpo

My family needs to get from the Marriott in Absecon NJ - near Atlantic City - on a Saturday evening.

Is there scheduled train or bus service from that area?
Please provide the names of the companies if you can.

    Thanks
    Pat

I think the bus might be faster--there are lots of buses back and forth. For Amtrak, it looks like you have to go to Philadelphia first and then transfer to a New York train.

Here's an Academy casino bus schedule.

              http://www.academybus.com/Upload/PDFs/route_29.pdf

Take a look around the Academy website; there are casino buses to West 85th St. in NYC, too.

The Atlantic City Express Service (ACES)

                ACES

The Atlantic City Express Service (shortened to ACES) is a planned
service to be operated by New Jersey Transit between New York City
and Atlantic City, New Jersey, operating along the Northeast Corridor
and Atlantic City Line. The service's nickname of ACES is a reference
to the Ace card in a deck of playing cards.

New train cars will be provided by NJ Transit and service will be partially
funded by the Casino Reinvestment Development Authority (MGM Mirage)
and Atlantic City Express Service, LLC (Boyd Gaming Corporation), which
are the companies that own Bally's, Harrah's, Showboat, Caesars, Borgata,
Resorts, and Tropicana casinos in Atlantic City.[1]

Only 25% of the seats are slated for sale to the general public,
with the rest reserved for the casinos backing the new train service.

Service will be provided with station stops at New York Penn Station
and Newark Penn Station, then directly to Atlantic City in about two
                and one-half hours.

Trains will depart New York Penn Station,
                pulled by an electric locomotive.

After stopping at Newark Penn Station, trains will proceed down the
Northeast Corridor bypassing all stations until they reach Shore
Interlocking in north Philadelphia, at which point a diesel-electric
locomotive attached to the other end of the train would take over,
bringing the train over the non-electrified Atlantic City Line.

The service is planned to run over trackage that was controlled by
the Pennsylvania Railroad and the Pennsylvania-Reading Seashore Lines.

                    Pat,
I'm embarrassed that I can't offer any help. I live 1/2 hr from AC but I've never taken public transportation. South Jersey has such poor public transportation that I always drive. Sorry.

Pat, if you buy your tickets online from Greyhound, they often have good specials.

I've always driven to Seaview, but this good info to have, just in case.

Just to clarify - we ARE driving - but my DD and her BF are leaving on a trip Sunday morning - so we want a stress free way of them returning to the city - likewise, my son will stay until Sunday evening....so we will put him on the bus as well.

Thanks Wacky, the AC terminal is open 24 hours - tickets are $30, $25 if you buy in advance. I will see what they want to do - and they can decide if they want to be locked into a time or to just go when they want.

I figured that you guys were driving, and this info was for your family. I'm glad to have the info just in case my DD ever wants to visit us for a few days, while we're at Seaview. She's not likely to spend a week, and this would work out for her.

BTW.....Hope that you guys have a wonderful Xmas!!!
