I have received over the years several offers (magazines, credit cards) offering a free companion airline ticket if I subscribe or enroll, and then purchase a ticket. I have ignored these assuming they would be a hassle to use. Has anyone had experience with using a companion ticket?

Companion Air Tickets?

We love the Alaskaair companion tickets. It comes with their Alaskaair credit card. While not free (costs $50- ticket that is) you get the companion ticket every year when your card renews. The great thing about their companion ticket is that it can be used for any fare ticket. I have found a lot of the other airlines' companion tickets can only be used when you purchase a full fare cash ticket.

In most cases when I can get a good rate for one ticket and then add a companion, I conclude that it's not worth cashing in my FF miles for the same trip. Instead I save the FF miles for a trip off the Alaska network.“Maybe you shouldn't dress like that.”

Originally posted by MargeSHaven't checked recently, but in the past I found it cheaper to just buy 2 tickets at a discount. Using the "companion" offer, costs more (or sometimes the same, but with extra hassle and limitations).
Has anyone found an offer that is a real deal?
I did not know about Alaska Air.
