OK, so I know it will be hot, but we were thinking of looking into Texas for July 2010. We really want to go to San Antonio. So this is what I was thinking. Getting a timeshare with in a reasonable drive from SA, possibly north of SA. Then, spend a dew days in SA, and spend another (second) week somewhere else in Texas, possibly on the coast. I am looking for suggestions. It would be 2 adults, no children. Some long walking, but no hiking, and no river adventures. We like to do long drives and see pretty scenery, and enjoy eating out. Any suggestions?

It will be hot, but San Antonio and the hill country just to the north are delightful. Generally, you can get a 4 star hotel in San Antonio for $100.00 a night (or less) using Priceline. If you stay right on the river walk, you won't have far to walk to enjoy the city, and we find it delightful, despite the heat and humidity. The hill country is cooler and generally has a breeze."You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity." Adrian Rogers

Another nice thing about the Hill country is that you can float down the river to help with the heat. We loved the stay we had down there a few years ago, but it was not quite as hot when we were there. The Riverwalk is also very nice. Finally, consider going to the caverns near there (forget the name right now).

For two adults, I'd definitely rent a room on the Riverwalk in San Antonio. There's a lot to do in the area, though, if you want to stay outside the city. We love Natural Bridge Caverns and tubing the river in New Braunfels.
As a native Texan who has spent a lot of time on the Florida gulf beaches, I've always been underwhelmed by South Padre, and I hate the Galveston beaches. My favorite place on the coast is Port Aransas, just outside Corpus Christi. It's a quaint little town with much better food than Corpus. There are lots of nice beachfront condos that aren't outrageous in the summer. There are only two RCI timeshares, Mustang Island Beach Club, which isn't on the beach, and Sundial at Mustang Towers, which is all two-bedrooms. I own there and go in October every year, but I think only about 15 units are TS.
