  • Santa Fe and Albuquerque weather

Why is Santa Fe always 8-10 degrees cooler than Albuquerque? We are going on 4/10, and I have been watching the daily temps to get an idea of what kind of clothes to bring. It seems to stay in the 40's. I hope it gets warmer before I get there.

Probably some of it is elevational differences.

    Santa Fe Elevation: 6634 ft

    Albuquerque Elevation: 4999 ft

Santa Fe is beautiful even when it's chilly. So far I've only been there in winter and have loved it.

And if you head up to Taos, it will be cooler still.

I was hoping to get away from the cold.

I just checked one of the online weather sites and the weather next week in Santa Fe is supposed to be sunny with temps in the 60's.

Thanks. Then there is hope that it will warm up in 4 weeks! I did not realize about the elevation. Is it like going to Denver and altitude adjustments?

I've never noticed anything like that in Santa Fe.

Most people experience no problems in Denver (or Albuquerque or Sante Fe). It's going higher that seems to make a difference--9,000 or so feet.

If you have asthma like my wife, it can be annoying but if you are in reasonably good health, it should not be a problem.

                  Cheers

I do have asthma. Maybe I will speak to my asthma MD before I go. Thanks for the heads up.
