Most European LCC's already do this, but even with this fee, their prices are so much lower than the legacies. A growing number of legacy airlines in Europe are also now doing this and even some USA-based legacy carriers charge a fee for buying the ticket if you buy it in some European countries.

Ah -- I see their taking after the master of the fee-bearing companies: TicketMaster.

Are they calling it a "convience fee" as well?

The problem with Spirit is their regular prices are as high if not higher than the legacy carriers out of Detroit. Only time you do good with them is to catch one of their many sales. I'm on their email list and probably get 3-4 emails a week for "sale prices".
