  • Help Car rental Nashville

I'm leaving May 10th and I still haven't gotten my rental. The very cheapest I've found is $185. I'm not used to paying that much. Does anyone have a code or know of a deal? shaggy

Use Cheap Flights, Hotels, and Rental Cars -- Discount Airfare | Priceline.com and start bidding at about $13 a day go up a dollar a day if you do not get it, I did some research for you and I saw people win a full size car there for $20 a day.

        Priceline.

They all wanted ~ $350 for a compact in S Cal I got it for $14/day + tax on Priceline or $133/week. I bet you can get it even cheaper in Nashville.

Not sure what size you could get for the $ 185, but Hotwire and Carrentals didn't beat it.

          Try Priceline.

Lately, rental car prices have been through the roof. I got a deal on our rental in Orange County, CA through Priceline but, so far I'm not having any luck for our upcoming trip to Boston. The next rental after that isn't until Nov. when we fly into Palm Beach, FL and it's just to far out to be really concerned about that week yet.

I had an interesting conversation with a Hertz employee back in March. According to him, they can't sell the used cars so they're keeping them longer. They're not renting as many cars so, to keep profits the same, they're charging more because they're renting less. This doesn't seem like a great business plan to me because we'll just look at alternate methods of transportation. A rental car isn't necessary but it is a convenience. When that convenience costs to much, we do without it.

As others have said, keep hammering Priceline. I'd continue to check Hotwire as well since prices tend to move up and down constantly. If you see a good price, jump on it. Actually, in the present market, $185, assuming it's for a week, isn't that bad. the cheapest I've seen for our Palm Beach week has been $233 for an off brand company and $271 through Thrifty. We're more accustomed to $135 to $150 for the week. We have a car we reserved for Boston at $169 with a reservation that was made nearly a year ago. Prices right now are running $335 for the week.

Thanks everyone. Last nightt about 1am I tried Priceline again. I have been bidding up to $15 and getting turned down. I almost gave up but tried again last night and got it for $13 day or with taxes around 155. I guess they got tired of me bidding as they kept sending me bidding tips. Glad I got it , Hertz , compact. I now have to go work on my airfare to the Bahamas for July. They also dropped a little last night but the schedules are horrible. Thanks for the help, shaggy

                Excellent!

FWIW my compact from Hertz wasn't so compact. A Nissan Versa.

I had stopped using Priceline a few years ago but started again in the fall of 2007 when the direct rental prices got crazy.
