Kudos to AA. While other airlines, notably DL/NW, are gutting their ff programs, AA has gone the other direction and made their program much more customer friendly.
Now, they are allowing one way award redemptions for half the miles. Previously (and still with all other US-based airlines) to book a one way award ticket you had to give full miles for a round trip. This is a huge step forward for AAdvantage, and it also applies to award bookings on their partners..
I have always liked BMI's Diamond Club ff program, which I have miles in for just this reason. I am doing a one way back from Vienna using their partner Austrian in a couple of months for half the miles of a round trip.
As a NW refugee after the DL takeover, I would have seriously thought about moving to AA if I had known this at the time (in spite of their very crappy major TATL gateways - JFK and Heathrow). I just hope that my new airline, CO, follows suit.
