Starting June 1, travelers will be required to have a passport to re-enter the US. This effects all types of travel and includes all countries where in the past a birth certificate and photo id was sufficient.
If you have not yet obtained a passport (or renewed your old one!) you have a few options.
Applying in person at a U.S. Passport Agency office costs about $160, (which includes a $60. rush charge).. Expected timeframe should be between 3 to 6 weeks. Using a privately operated service, such as RushMyPassport.com or RushPassport.com will cost about $200 to process an application within a week or two.
