  • New US low cost airline - $9 tickets - JetAmerica

JetAmerica is starting operations, and says its first 9 seats on every flight will always be priced at $9.

Jet America: Florida, Orlando, Melbourne, New York, Toledo, Detroit, Lansing, South Bend, Minneapolis: cheap, safe, reliable air fare

I note that two of the cities they are flying to are major hubs - Newark for Continental, and Minneapolis - St. Paul for Northwest.

Limited info on their tiny website. Does say it's a charter service, that does not bode well when there are problems. Doesn't look like much competition to me in Newark, MSP, or Detroit(Toledo).

I guess I could go from MSP to to Detroit, then onto orlando. But it looks as it has very limited dates.

Started by the same guy who started Skybus with likely the same results.

          Well that failed.

They never set up a gate at the airport, then announced that they are not taking reservations. Story on the news this morning about a family that booked on the airline, then a hotel, got prepaid dinner cards for a Labor Day weekend, and now no airline.

            As Expected

As I predicted, they failed to deliver. I did not expect them to not even open or fly a single airplane.

            Cheers

I missed this the first time they posted. Jet America was a start up airline based in Long Beach CA soon after deregulation.....they did very well and really shook up the competition. They finally went out of business but had many years of success.

Huh? This was new (this spring) plans to have this service started in the past couple weeks. I don't know if there was another Jet America that you may be thinking of or if the out of business airline was making a comeback?

There were local news stories about this company coming to town with their cheap airfare, and then news coverage when the failed to deliver on their promises.

Sorry I did not make it clear.....the original Jet America has come and gone long ago. I do wonder if any of the past executives were involved in the new venture. The original Jet America was bought out by Alaska Airlines.

Just on a whim, I went to the link from the OP. Guess what, it doesn't exist. Now you can buy that domain name and have your own Jet America. I just hope that everyone who booked on that failed plan was able to get their money back.
